I was at Bedok Mall shopping for travel essentials for my Swiss vacation and stopped by at Fruit Paradise for tea break.
They have weekdays afternoon special promo for a set of Fruit Tart + Beverage at only $9.80++, I ordered a Chocolate Strawberry Tart (U.P. $7.80) and a cup of Yuzu Pear Blossom Tea (U.P. $4.80) to go with it.
The Chocolate Strawberry Tart was pretty delish with loads of fresh strawberry slices on a chocolate base. The Yuzu Pear Blossom Tea was aromatic and invigorating on every sip...lovely!
I absolutely adore their fruit tarts and tabao two more slices the day after from Plaza Singapura outlet. So glad they brought it back at the Tokyo Walker after a short closure.
New flavor, Black Jack $7.80 with Oreo cookie, fresh fruits on cheese base, and my fave Nutty Caramel $6.80, with caramel fresh cream, fresh fruits on custard base.

Dinner at Le Chasseur 樂食軒
Yay for another impromptu dinner with evil sistas. The excuse for meeting up this time is distribution of homemade mooncakes by our talented baker sista. She made kimchi last minute too! I also came bearing gifts from hubby's recent Hokkaido trip.
The venue of choice is the zichar stall with a French-like name, Le Chasseur, located at the industrial park area beside Eunos bus interchange.
They occupied almost half of the Food Center premise, cordoned off with their own big round tables and chairs. Weekday evenings are pretty quite here, we get to choose where we like to sit. The staffs took order for drinks first while we ponder over the menu items on the self service order chit.
We all had the cooling Grass Jelly drink $2.50+, served in a tall cup topped with refreshing wolfberries. This was loaded with smooth wobbly jelly and not too sweet, recommended!
We finally placed order for 8 dishes for 5pax to share. All dishes are served one portion only, except for their signature claypot rice which comes in small or large portion. Portion is small so we can order many dishes to try.
First up, Fried Chicken Wings $6.50+. Crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside, very well executed comfort food. We ordered another serving after wiping out the first one.
Sambal Kangkong $5.60+, nice and crisp kangkong with extra belachan chili served by the side for easy customization of spiciness. Very good too.
Ngor Hiang $5.00+, another wonderfully executed home style dish. The flavorful minced pork rolls comes with bits of carrot, chestnuts and other vegetables. One roll is not enough for us, so we had seconds.
Assam Pedas Fish $38.50+, choice of fish head or whole fish, we picked the latter. The portion was quite huge, and the fish has fierce looking eyes. The assam sauce was thick but I feel it is not tangy enough, it needs to be more sour to have kick.
Crispy Pork Knuckle $30.00+, extremely huge serving of deep fried knuckle, pre-cut for easy consumption. The crackling skin was the highlight of the dish, the meat however is quite tough due to the deep frying. Overall, passable dish, and good value for money for the large portion.
Claypot Chicken Rice (Large) $21.00+, Le Chasseur's signature dish that is a must order at every table. We could already smell the enticing aroma when it arrives at the table. The staff mixes the rice with some oil and dark sauce just before they served it onto our table.
The dish lived up to its reputation of a signature dish, it is utterly fragrant with smoky aroma and packed with generous serving of tender chicken meat, tasty lup cheong, mushroom and bits of savory salted fish. Two thumbs up!
After a hearty meal, we had a single portion of the Black Fungus Soup $3.70+ for dessert. We didn't realize it was a dessert till it was served at the end. It was a sweet soup with 'caramelized' softer than usual black fungus slices, and some wolfberries. Pretty good and unique dish, we were pleasantly surprised.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Le Chasseur, food quality is quite impressive and prices are pocket friendly even though they charge GST. Service is prompt and efficient as well. We would definitely recommend this place to all easterners!

Bedok Local Delicacies - Bedok Chwee Kueh & Fatt Soon Kueh
After shopping at Bedok Mall for some travel essentials and a pair of walking shoes for my Swiss trip, I headed over to Bedok Interchange Hawker to tabao my fave chwee kueh and soon kueh for family.
Bedok Chwee Kueh is forever long queue, took me 15mins to get my hands on them. Prices has been same for past 10yrs...while the whole world has increased prices for their stuffs. The chwee kuehs here are 25 cents each, you can buy them in packets of 4s, 6s & 8s.
The chwee kuehs are very smooth and soft with hint of rice fragrance. The cai por topping is generous, very oily but super flavorful with bits of black and white sesame inside...thumbs up!
Fatt Soon Kueh is right beside Bedok Chwee Kueh. I always patronize both stalls at the same time. They sell soon kueh, gu cai kueh, png kueh and ang gu kueh, all priced at $2.30 for 3pcs or 80 cents each.
Check out the myriad of delicious ingredients packed within their thin and translucent skinned kuehs! I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Fine food from House of Albert Ménès & Cafédirect
Received an email from Mileage Communications informing that they have some food samples from France and UK for tasting. The package was couriered to me and we've got a box of Matzo Bread and a bottle of Violet Fig Jam from House of Albert Ménès, and Medium Roast Freeze-Dried Instant Coffee from Cafédirect.
The House of Albert Ménès was founded in 1921, famous for over 350 French fine artisan foods, made from original classic French recipes.
Matzo bread is a flat and unleavened bread traditionally eaten by Jews during the week-long Passover holiday. There are two major forms of matzo (soft and hard). In many western countries the most common form is the hard form of matzo which has cracker-like appearance and taste.
The House of Albert Ménès was founded in 1921, famous for over 350 French fine artisan foods, made from original classic French recipes.
The Matzo bread from Albert Ménès does look like huge squares of cream crackers. They are crispy like crackers too except that its tasteless and must be eaten with a dip or toppings. I had it with the Fig Jam from Albert Ménès, dipped in coffee (from Cafédirect) and with curry chicken. Very yummy and a good alternative to the french loaf!
Violet Fig Jam from Albert Ménès is made from carefully selected whole figs grown in Soilles-Pont in Var, south of France. The figs are peeled and cooked the rustic way by the loving hands of French artisans, in an open copper cauldron, like all other jams from the House of Albert Ménès, preserving the natural taste of the whole fruit. The jam is quite sweet and has chunks of fig flesh in every scoop. Taste pretty good with the tasteless matzo bread.
The Violet Fig Jam ($18) and the Matzo Bread ($9) are sold at Market Place at Paragon, Raffles City and Tanglin Mall, Jasons the Gourmet Grocer @ ION Orchard and Sentosa Quayside as well as Robinsons Orchard.
Cafédirect is the UK’s first and largest 100% Fairtrade beverage brand. Cafédirect also has a hot beverage range that includes 100% Fairtrade tea and hot chocolate. The Medium Roast Freeze-Dried instant coffee from Cafédirect is a perfect formula of balancing the sweet and chocolaty Arabica beans from South America, with the all-rounder beans from the highlands of Central America, and the vibrant bold-bodied East African Natural Robusta coffee beans. Carefully selected for roasting to a pleasing medium 3 scale, and freeze-dried to retain its natural goodness.
The easy to prepare beverage works best for the lazy me, or for busy people who are constantly on the go. Just add hot water and wala...a nice fragrant cup of hot coffee for a quick pick-me-up. The coffee has a pleasant aroma but taste a tad too acidic for me when taken without milk/creamer. Hubby had it with milk and he said its a rather fine cuppa considering that it is instant coffee.
Cafédirect Freeze-dried Medium Roast Instant Coffee is priced at $10.90 per 100g jar. It is available at major supermarkets like Cold Storage, FairPrice Finest, Giant Hyper, Jasons and Market Place.
Special thanks to Mileage Communications for the free food samples.
