National Day Fireworks & Dinner at Royal Palm @Singapore Flyer

We purchased vouchers from Deal.com at $48nett per pax for Buffet dinner at Royal Palm on National Day. The buffet consists of several kinds of local delicacies and free flow of soft drinks, and promised view of NDP fireworks display at their Al fresco dining area by the bay.

I reached Promenade station a little early and was feeling hungry so I dropped by 7-11 at the station and got myself a Magnum Pink Marc de Champagne! At $4.20 a piece, this pretty looking ice cream is very yummy too!

The path leading towards the entrance of SG Flyer & the restaurants at level 1 was closed so we had to make a detour to the back of the Flyer, ascend to level 2 and descend again to level 1 to get to the Royal Palm. After registration and handing in of Deal vouchers, we were led to the Al fresco dining area and settled down at our table.

Free flow of Fanta orange and Coke available throughout the meal.

My friend ordered a Singapore Sling at promo price of $10.

The buffet station opens at 7pm sharp and everyone chiong for the food. I managed to pick up a plate of chicken & mutton satay and some fried chicken wings for sharing, and a plate of sushi and seafood for my first round.

The satay was very dry, not nice. The chicken wings was ok, not too bad. Sushi, fresh prawns and baby octopus were good, but the jelly fish was tasteless.

My friend's plate of hawker food and chili crab. Only the chili crab is good, the rest were dry and tasteless.

My second round...

I had the cold soba which was ok, Gado gado which was very good cos of the yummy peanut sauce. The indian nasi bryani and chicken tikka was very good as well, rice was soft and fragrant and chicken has smoky aroma.

The last round was fruits and mango pudding...fruits were fine but the pudding was too sweet.

While we're having dinner, we saw the helicopter flying pass us with the Singapore flag and fighter jets performances as well.

After filling up our stomach we got up and picked a nice spot to view the impending fireworks display. While waiting, I took a few shots of the surroundings.

Finally, the moment we've been waiting for...I'll let the pictures do the talking..

That coconut tree 'center piece' was really irritating...

We also caught a glimpse of the march pass group returning to their starting point.

We ended our dinner session at about 9.30pm and walked back to Promenade MRT to take the train back...look at the crowd at the platform!

It is quite an exciting night spending time with friends eating and watching live fireworks displays. This may be the last year the NDP is held at the floating platform. Our spanking new stadium is near completion...we may need to find a new spot again next year!

Au Chocolat again..

This is my third time here..we absolutely love the food and service here, and we're back to enjoy the Wednesday Waffle promo (2nd waffle at half price).

Our reserved table

There's currently a National Day special menu 'Singapore Flavors' all day set meals.

And also current promo for month of Aug, Foie Gras for $5 with every main course ordered (Mon-Wed only).

My Banana Boost $12.00++, a blend of White chocolate and banana puree...this is nice, I can taste the real banana and its sweetness plus the smoothness of the creamy white chocolate and whip cream..yums.

My friends' drinks...Hot Chocolate fudge $10.00++ and Taiwanese lychee beer $12.00++. The lychee beer has a strong lychee aroma!

As usual, we ordered some sides to share..

The Sweet Potato fries $12.00++ was good, crispy on the outside and very soft and mushy and sweet inside! Mushroom bites $14.00++ was yummy as usual.

We ordered 5 sets of Foie gras $5.00++ together with our mains.

The liver was not well cooked, some parts were still raw and the edges were burnt. The quality of the liver was not as good as the ones served at Chef d' table, but for only $5, we can't really complain ya..

My main course, California smoked salmon sandwich $20.00++. Generous serving of chilled smoked salmon slices served with half avocado, hard boiled egg, lettuce, plump tomato and red onion slices with honey mayo dressing. The toast was well prepared with caramelized side being very crispy but bread is still soft and fluffy...a very delish sandwich. The thick cut french fries were good as usual.

My friend's Handmade Pacific Crab cake $32.00++, look at the lovely presentation! I had a bite of the crab cake...it was very delicious, better than the 10Scotts ones.

It's dessert time...we enquired about the waffle promo but the serving stuff told us that it is only available at the Confiserie, we'll have to walk over there to eat it...what a disappointment! So we have to make do with just one Kalamansi tart $9.00++ and a Cookies & cream brownie $5.00++ for sharing.

The Kalamansi tart was quite nice, the tangy and sourish lime cream blends well with the sweet and creamy torched meringue topping...the tart base was very hard though.

The brownie tasted ok but it was very dry...disappointed.

Our total bill came up to be $300+, and my friend gets to bring home an OO plushie for free (spend $200 and get one OO free).

OO plushies

Food and service standard maintained, the desserts are however still a hits and misses affair. We will be back again to try other food.

New kid on the block - Hot & Roll

There is a new stall at NEX! A franchise from Malaysia selling sweet and savory Crispy, Paratha and Chapatti Wraps. Check out their menu here. Prices are not in SGD though. This kiosk replaces the previous Ooki Taiyaki stall.

I ordered a Crispy Banana Chocolate wrap $4.50 and a Paratha Satay Chicken wrap $3.90. The wraps were prepared hot upon order..

The Banana Chocolate wrap was paper thin and very crispy...banana slices were very sweet, goes well with the chocolate sauce. It would have been even better if they drizzle a little bit more chocolate sauce as I feel it is not chocolaty enough. But overall, still a very delish sweet snack..

The savory Satay chicken wrap was thicker, softer and slightly crispy, served with satay flavored chicken cubes, chopped onions & cucumber. This was very good as well, chicken was well marinated, onion & cucumber was crunchy...another satisfying snack!

I shared these with hubby and he kept saying its nice...so we will definitely be back for more!
