Hifumi Japanese restaurant

Had an early dinner here with a friend. We were checking out the new eatery located at the new extension area of Plaza Singapura. We finally settled for Hifumi after finding the set meals are very affordable. All set meal orders comes with an All you can eat appetizer bar...value for money. There is an option to top up $1.99++ for free flow of beverages (tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.)

We were there at 5pm, there were no queue yet. We were quickly ushered in to our table. The restaurant has a clean and chic decor.

After placing order for our set meals, we helped ourselves with the appetizer bar. There were pickles, potato salad, miso onions, tomato eggplants, soup and chawanmushi etc.

The New Harbour Cafe and Bar

We were looking for a nice place to have dinner and my friend suggested this place along Tanjong Pagar road. It was past 9pm so we got seats immediately. We ordered one mains each and some sides to share. The food here was quite good.

The Hainanese Roast Pork...this is one dish that almost every table ordered...super crispy and nice!

The two other side dishes were yummy too...sotong & fried chicken wings.

Some mains we ordered...they are not bad.

Hokkaido cake making with girlfriends

We bought this deal from Groupon "2hrs hands on Hokkaido cake baking class" at $93 for 2pax. The class is conducted at ITSI Baking Studio located at Chinatown.

6 of us arrived early, so we took our time to settle down and check out the stuffs there..

Class begins soon after all 12pax has arrived. The instructor walked us thru the ingredients used and taking questions from participants during the process.

Ingredients:

Group A
3 egg yolks
30g sugar (custard)
a pinch of salt
30g corn oil
60g full cream milk

Group B
70g cake flour

Group C
3 egg white
1/4tsp cream of tartar
40g sugar (custard)

Cake Topping
Non dairy cream 100g
Icing sugar

Method

1. Preheat oven at 180deg C
2. Combine group A in bowl, mix well.

3. Whisk egg white till foamy. Add cream of tartar, followed by sugar. Whisk till soft peak.

4. Sieve cake flour into group A and mix well.

5. Combine with egg white. Mix about 20% egg white to Group A, then pour everything into Group C. Mix well.

6. Pour batter into individual paper cup for Hokkaido cake (non wax cups)

7. Bake in oven for 20mins.

8. Leave cakes to cool.
9. Prepare whipped cream.

10. Poke a hole in center of cakes, pipe in the whipped cream.

11. Sprinkle icing sugar on top of cake and serve.

Disclaimer: all of the above are done by my competent partner Theresa while I did the photographer job. I only helped scoop the batter into paper cups heehee..

Nonetheless, we had great fun making cake together...definitely a good bonding session!
