National Day Fireworks & Dinner at Royal Palm @Singapore Flyer

We purchased vouchers from Deal.com at $48nett per pax for Buffet dinner at Royal Palm on National Day. The buffet consists of several kinds of local delicacies and free flow of soft drinks, and promised view of NDP fireworks display at their Al fresco dining area by the bay.

I reached Promenade station a little early and was feeling hungry so I dropped by 7-11 at the station and got myself a Magnum Pink Marc de Champagne! At $4.20 a piece, this pretty looking ice cream is very yummy too!

The path leading towards the entrance of SG Flyer & the restaurants at level 1 was closed so we had to make a detour to the back of the Flyer, ascend to level 2 and descend again to level 1 to get to the Royal Palm. After registration and handing in of Deal vouchers, we were led to the Al fresco dining area and settled down at our table.

Free flow of Fanta orange and Coke available throughout the meal.

The buffet station opens at 7pm sharp and everyone chiong for the food. I managed to pick up a plate of chicken & mutton satay and some fried chicken wings for sharing, and a plate of sushi and seafood for my first round.

The satay was very dry, not nice. The chicken wings was ok, not too bad. Sushi, fresh prawns and baby octopus were good, but the jelly fish was tasteless.

My friend's plate of hawker food and chili crab. Only the chili crab is good, the rest were dry and tasteless.

My second round...

I had the cold soba which was ok, Gado gado which was very good cos of the yummy peanut sauce. The indian nasi bryani and chicken tikka was very good as well, rice was soft and fragrant and chicken has smoky aroma.

The last round was fruits and mango pudding...fruits were fine but the pudding was too sweet.

While we're having dinner, we saw the helicopter flying pass us with the Singapore flag and fighter jets performances as well.

After filling up our stomach we got up and picked a nice spot to view the impending fireworks display. While waiting, I took a few shots of the surroundings.

Finally, the moment we've been waiting for...I'll let the pictures do the talking..

That coconut tree 'center piece' was really irritating...

We also caught a glimpse of the march pass group returning to their starting point.

We ended our dinner session at about 9.30pm and walked back to Promenade MRT to take the train back...look at the crowd at the platform!

It is quite an exciting night spending time with friends eating and watching live fireworks displays. This may be the last year the NDP is held at the floating platform. Our spanking new stadium is near completion...we may need to find a new spot again next year!
