Delicious food from The Asian Kitchen 鹿港小镇 @Nex

I have been ordering takeaways from this small restaurant thrice and so far dishes I tried (especially the signature items) were very delish. So I'm just gonna share my reviews here...

On top of the Must Try list is their Taiwanese Eggy Bowl rice (滷肉飯) $6.50++

This is super delicious, the minced pork was well marinated and stewed with minced mushrooms till very soft. Every spoonful of this was melt in the mouth goodness. The rice comes with a whole braised egg and chestnuts too...yum yum.

Roast Pork $13.80++
Their roast pork is very good! It was prepared in a rounded shape and roasted like that. One serving is good enough to share for 2pax. There is alot of lean meat and not too much fatty meat but the lean meat is tender, not tough. I really enjoyed the crispy crackling skin...thumbs up.

Roast duck original flavor $11.70++
The duck is nice, very meaty and skin was thin and not too much fatty layer underneath. Although the skin is no longer crispy by the time I consume it but it is easy to bite, not chewy. The portion is quite big too, good enough for 2pax to share.

Pork Garlic Stew $9.90++
Stew roast pork belly with leek and garlic. This was quite nice as well. The pork belly was quite lean and was stewed till pretty soft and tender. The whole garlic and leek provides a nice aroma to the dish.

Salted egg yolk french beans $8.20++
I love everything cooked with salted egg yolk and this is the first time I'm trying french beans cooked this way. It didn't disappoint, fresh crunchy beans tasted good with the creamy and salty sauce.

Treasure pot tofu $7.90++
This dish is rather ordinary, egg tofu was cooked with sugar peas and mushrooms. Sauce is light and simple...not bad.

Lu Gang fried rice $9.90++
Egg fried rice with prawn meat and chinese sausage...prawns were fresh, the chinese sausages gives the dish a subtle sweetness. Quite delish as well.

Service here was decent, they have both mandarin and english speaking staffs to cater to different guests. Their signature roast duck comes in a few other flavors and I'm gonna try them all someday.

Dinner at Ichiban Boshi @Nex

I had craving for Jap food after looking at yummy food photos from the newly opened Sumiya...so I decided to drop by at their sister restaurant Ichiban Boshi to have my dinner.

There was a short queue already forming up at 6.15pm. After a short wait, I was ushered to my seat.

After browsing the menu, I selected one main course and two sides to go with it.

The Crispy Sweet prawns Amaebi Karaage $5.90++. These were good, the mini prawns were very crispy and really very sweet...perfect snack to go with beer.

The Gyoza Teppan $5.90++. These were served on a hotplate drizzled with sweet soy sauce. They were not too bad, sweet and slightly crisp skin with juicy minced pork fillings.

My main course is Kaisen Pirikara udon $13.90++, a seafood udon in garlic broth served pipping hot with generous topping of fresh prawns and salmon slices. The prawns were fresh and crunchy, salmon slices were slightly overcooked due to being soaked in simmering broth a tad too long while I take pictures of it :p

There were lotsa vege and mushroom underneath the seafood. The broth was light and very very sweet...I loved it!

Service here was good, quite easy to get attention of the waiting staffs. Food quality was as usual very good and prices were pretty reasonable. This is one restaurant I will continue to patronize.

The Green Door, before & after Bar

The Green Door is a very nice and romantic chill out place. The decor style here is a collision of modern and rustic elements. From recycled water bottles to gramophone horns to bicycle parts, all were put into good use here.

Roadhouse, the American Diner on the hill

Tucked away in the quiet and rustic Dempsey hill, this smallish establishment was housed in the former British military barracks that dates back to the 18th century.

Menu

The restaurant has an American Diner style decor with a long wooden table in the middle catered for larger group of diners. One can still see bits and pieces of history in this antique building...check out that older than old school telephone!

Menu

As usual, when we dine in big group we will order some sides to share. The Crispy Calamari rings $16++ were not very crispy but the squid was fresh and we loved the spicy and creamy Tabasco mayo dip!

The Truffle fries $8++ were not too bad, served pipping hot, has crisp exterior with soft interior. They have not been too generous with the truffle oil though.

 The Parmesan wings $14++ tasted like Swensen's Rodeo wings sprinkled with cheese shavings.

For drinks, I ordered the Root beer float $8++. It was a safe choice and tasted quite nice..

Quite a few of us ordered their signature American style or Asian fusion style gourmet burgers. I had the Bollywood Prawn Star $24++.

The chunky prawn patty was really thick! With generous amount of juicy and succulent chopped prawn meat deep fried in crispy beer batter, topped with mango curry mayo. The patty itself was slightly salty but it tasted quite good with the sweet and slightly spicy curry mayo sauce and iceberg lettuce...I enjoyed it very much.

My friend's Fabulous Foie Gras burger $32++. Thick chunky Josper-grilled wagyu beef patty topped with a rather generous portion of pan seared liver.

Friend was initially enjoying the juicy beef and creamy foie gras but was later complaining about it being a tad oily and salty towards the end of the meal.

Japanese Prawn Star $24++. Similar as my Bollywood burger but with a Japanese twist. This is served with wasabi mayo instead of mango curry mayo.

My friend didn't enjoy her burger at all as the prawn patty was marinated with too much salt and was making her extremely thirsty after a few bites.

Other non-burger dishes ordered were BBQ ribs $29++ for half-rack and Bacon meatloaf $35++

I tasted a bit of the BBQ ribs, it was not bad but friend said it was not juicy enough. The crispy onion rings were very good though. I also liked their homemade coleslaw, it was rather sweet and refreshing. I didn't try the meatloaf but friend who had it was saying it was a delish combi of crispy bacon strips with chunky sausage and juicy minced beef.

The main courses portion were all really generous, we were filled to the brim and had no more space for desserts. We decided to ask for the bill and pack the excess fries (there was a lot left!) for takeaway.

Overall dining experience here was good for me, I loved the ambiance here which gives off a different vibe as compared to dining in town. Service staffs were friendly and helped us make arrangements with the bar we are heading to for after dinner drinks. The total bill was a reasonable $54 per pax (considering the huge portions and expensive meat used in dishes). I will return if they have a new menu.
