“Almost paradise...almost!”

We stayed from 25 Aug - 5 Sep 2012
We booked a Superior room and was upgraded to an Ocean suite for our entire stay upon arrival. Needless to say the room exceeds our expectations in many ways. A breakdown of my experiences at LUX Le Morne.
The Hotel - Beautiful. period.
The Beach - the crystal clear water, turquoise lagoon and the clean sand is almost perfect but having been to the Maldives, I would say the sand is not as perfectly white and powdery fine as Maldive's beaches..but it is definitely close. The presence of the UNESCO landmark Le Morne mountain makes the location hard to beat.
The Room - The bed was huge and comfy and high (a little too high for petit me). The height also makes the bedside table a tad hard to access. Room was spacious with a huge bathroom and a bathtub overlooking the bed & the terrace. There is also a separate shower cubicle with huge rain shower. Water pressure was very good! Love the bathroom amenities provided. We didn't use the Nespresso machine in the room though. The in-room wifi was ok, the wifi router needs to be reset almost everyday in order for us to enjoy the complimentary internet access. We found out that many file/media sharing sites like Instagram were blocked by the hotel. I was forced to do my Apps update at the shopping malls as download traffic from Android market was blocked too.
The Food - We were on the half board meal plan and had to pay for water every meal. We already knew that so no complains here. Food at the Main restaurant was very good, lots of selections for breakfast. For dinner we have a choice of dining at the Main restaurant or at the Nipa (Thai) or the Beach (Mediterranean) restaurant. The Main restaurant has themed buffets 3 nights per week (Bistro, Mauritian or Mediterranean buffet) and set menu on other nights. The spread for buffet was good, the desserts variety were pretty impressive. Set menu has a selection of starter, mains and dessert (4-5 choices to choose from), the menu changes everyday. We dined at the main restaurant most nights accept for two nights we made reservation to eat at the Nipa. Food at the Nipa was a couple of hits and misses, the Green curry and Tom Yum soup was very good while the Phad thai was a tad too sweet, and it was served with a slice if lemon instead of the usual lime. Thai desserts were overly sweet, I learnt the lesson and ordered ice cream for my second visit and I didn't regret it.
The Service - service was good overall. Some staffs don't speak english too well and could lead to misunderstanding sometimes. Nevertheless, it was still one of the best service we have experienced on our travels.
Our overall experience at this hotel was very good and would return to the same hotel in a heart beat if we ever visit Le Morne again.

Dear Midas 400,
Thank you very much for writing such a detailed review that will be very useful to potential visitors to LUX Le Morne. Truly we have had a few issues lately with WiFi and since you left we have changed our room receivers to nano stations that have automatic resetting and a better output. I will investigate why the downloading of the files you mentionned was blocked and hopefully get this resolved. I am sorry for those misses on the Thai dinner and I am pleased to inform you that starting this week we have a new fabulous Thai Chef joining in - we tasted his food and it is wow by any standard.
I hope you will visit us again and make yourself known as I will wish to invite you to Nipa for this new experience.
Yours sincerely,
