Nancy's Kitchen at 5pm |
However, by the time we're done with street shopping at 9.20pm, Nancy's Kitchen was already closed. We wanted to find an aircon place to cool down after sweating it out at the pasar malam, and finally settled in at the Far East Cafe, a few steps away from Nancy's, as it has an aircon indoor dining area we're looking for.
We could see that this cafe used to be a peranakan residence with the old school floor tiles, tables & chairs and the staircase at the back. It had been re-decorated with western elements such as the chandelier, western style paintings and curtains which makes it look kinda weird.
Nevertheless, the indoor aircon was really powerful and the menu had items we wanna eat, so we went ahead to place order for dinner. We selected 5 dishes to go with rice, keeping our fingers crossed and hope the food will be good.
Smallish portions, except for the whole fish. |
Stir-fry mixed veggies RM10.00++ |
Long bean omelette RM7.00++ |
Babi Pongteh RM13.00++ |
Nyonya Spring rolls (ngoh hiang) RM10.00++ |
Assam fish RM16.00++, very cheap! |
We were pleasantly surprised that the food was home cooked style and was rather delicious. Serving portion was on the small side but prices weren't too steep so we're fine with what was served. I especially enjoyed eating the Babi Pongteh, the nyonya braised pork belly was tender and well infused with flavor. The other crowd favorite was the Assam fish. Albeit lacking in wow factor, it was still quite a satisfying dinner overall, and we wouldn't mind coming back again to try more dishes.
