3D2N Melaka Getaway - Day 2 Part 1/2

Woke up early and grab a hearty Buffet Breakfast at hotel before heading out for some walking tour around the old town. I have to say, our hotel BF was very good! Food variety was extensive and tastes awesome too.

We started our walking tour taking in the sights along the Melaka river. Followed by exploration of historical sights across the river (UNESCO Heritage sites).

The Heeren House

Malacca Sultanate Watermill

At the Dutch Square (a.k.a. Red Square), we visited the:

- Stadthuys (an old Dutch spelling, meaning City hall)
- Clock Tower 1886
- Christ Church
- Queen Victoria's Fountain
- St. Francis Xavier Church

St. Francis Xavier Church

From the Dutch Square, we took a short cut via the back of the Stadthuys (enter behind the Dutch graveyard) and walk up the St. Paul's hill without climbing staircases. Explored the Portuguese fort and St.Paul ruins, as well as bird's eye view of the Melaka town. Then we walked down the staircase to the A'Farmosa fort.

First round of historical sites was done! It's tea break time at Nadeje Mahkota Parade, well known for their Mille Crepes. From the A'Farmosa fort, we cut through the Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall to get to the Mahkota Parade.

Nadeje

The cakes at Nadeje were fabulous! The service here was good and they had free Wifi too. It is a must try for all dessert lovers visiting Melaka!

At about 1.30pm, we're back at the Heeren street to visit the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum. This place used to be a rich merchant's residence (曾府), now converted into an educational museum for the public visitors.

We missed the 1.15pm guided tour and didn't wanna wait till 2.15pm for the next tour, so we opted to walk on our own, armed with the provided guide book. Admission fee is RM16 per adult.

Photo taking is prohibited inside the house, so we only took some pics at the reception hall before embarking on our tour.

This peranakan residence was a sight to behold. We can imagine that the Chan's family were very wealthy at the time they were staying in this house. Every piece of furniture here was custom made with impressively intricate workmanship involved, even the staircase to level 2 had gold leaves carvings all over the railings. It was also interesting to see the rituals performed during some of their important events in the household. A pretty insightful tour indeed.

We spent about 40mins in the house, and ended our tour at the exit where a souvenir shop and a cafe is located.

We're getting really exhausted with all the walking since morning and the sweltering heat of Melaka. So its back to the hotel for shower and rest before we head out again to get our dinner fix.

Continue to Part 2.
