Hotel Marta at Zurich

At our last stop of the trip, Zurich, we stayed two nights at the centrally located Hotel Marta just 5mins walk from the massive Zurich train station. This budget 2 stars hotel is managed by a non profit company, keeping its room rates very affordable for travelers to this expensive city.

Hotel Marta is operated by Frauenhotel AG, a non-profit company domiciled in Zurich. It is a professionally managed hotel as well as an "integration" company. The hotel offers part-time positions for unemployed women with mentally and/or learning impairment. This provides employment with full guidance and helps re-integration into the first job market. This social aspect is supported by public funds.

The front desk is not managed by part timers, but I figured all their employees here are women. Check in was smooth and we're allocated a room #402 on 4th floor. There is an elevator in the hotel. Our Large Double room was very spacious and clean, and comes with a foldable sofa bed. In room wifi was good and stable.

The hotel was built by the famous architect Werner Stücheli in the 50s. The facade of the building, the spiral staircase and the breakfast room are trademarks of that era.

The complimentary tea room (ground floor) where guests can enjoy a cuppa anytime of the day.

The reception counter and the lobby area...

Breakfast (7-10am) is served at the breakfast room on the 1st floor, a simple fare but alright for our short stay here.

A special feature of this budget hotel is the guests must clear the table themselves after taking their meal.

This no-frills hotel is not bad for a short stay, clean, comfortable and pocket friendly. However, due to its location along a happening bar street, you may get noises at night during the weekends. Our room faces the back of the hotel which is along a busy road so we got traffic noises instead which subsided after midnight. We have to accept that staying in the center of the bustling city, traffic noises are inevitable. But on the bright side, this place is 3mins walk to supermarkets, 5mins to the main shopping street, zero mins to being in the town center. Go figure.
