So what do people usually buy when visiting Melaka? If you are clueless, just head to the San Shu Gong 三叔公, this place sells all kinds of local food stuffs, nicely packaged, for tourists to bring back as souvenirs and gifts. Almost everyone we saw got out of Melaka with a San Shu Gong shopping recycle-bag. San Shu Gong is located in the heart of Melaka town, at the entrance to Jonker street.
This place has got the best aircon strength in the area, always a good choice to stop by mid trip to get a cold drink and shop for food stuffs. Friendly staffs are always at hand to help with samples tasting and making recommendations on what to buy.

East & West Rendezvous
The lady boss here inherited her ancestor's traditional Nyonya food recipes, and their hotest selling items here is their Nyonya rice dumplings. For those who don't fancy nyonya style dumplings like I do, they also sell the regular savory rice dumplings too. While you are there, do check out the other nyonya pastries on sale here too.
The photogenic nyonya dumpling, too sweet for my liking (as usual) but my friends who likes nyonya chang say they were delicious.
The unassuming looking savory dumpling was really good. I regretted only buying two back. Will definitely buy more on my next trip!
Pineapple tarts (traditional open-faced), were quite good for someone like me who doesn't fancy buttery tarts commonly found in SG during the CNY. The fibrous pineapple paste wasn't too sweet, very nice.
It's a little tricky to find this small shop along Lorong Hang Jebat, so I'm including directions here. But do make advanced orders with the lady boss else you may experience her 'black face', as reported by fellow tripadvisor reviewers. For us, she appeared very friendly on the phone as well as in person when we visited her shop.

The Orangutan House
Owned by an artist who created all the original pieces himself, Orangutan house is the place to check out local Melaka-themed T-shirts. Photography is not allowed so I'm sharing the pieces that I bought here. They have two shops, one along Lorong Hang Jebat, and one more at Jonker street.

Eng Chee Seng 永志成餅家
This traditional chinese pastry shop has been in operations for almost 100yrs. Currently run by the 3rd generation descendants, their pastries are handmade fresh daily and preservatives free! The Tau Sar Piah here has a mere 4 days shelf life (keeps longer than a week in the fridge). These biscuits were so good that they were wiped out in 2 days and didn't make it to the fridge! Do call in advance to reserve as the boss told us they are usually sold out by end of the day.

Taste Better : One-Bite Durian Puff
Recommended by several Taiwanese travel shows, they seem to be the only shop selling durian puffs in the vicinity. I would recommend this if you don't live in SG or don't enjoy strong tasting durian pastries, as our SG durian puffs can beat them hands down anytime. You have been warned.
